We’re placing women at the center of the conversation by highlighting creatives around the world who are breaking barriers, creating new paradigms and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design. Born from an acute awareness of the gender gap in the design industry, our goal is dislodge the ongoing imbalance by harnessing the collective strength of the women we represent.

Lost in Motion
Photographer Edward Weston said “The camera sees more than the eye, so why not make use of it?” There are many ways to visualize motion in a still photograph. Manipulating shutter speed with long exposures, especially at night, create new forms unseen in reality, or, it can completely freeze action otherwise too fast to follow. The act of panning the camera along with a moving object, or merely planting ourselves in the perfect location can all give us a tremendous feeling of movement. Since the invention of the medium, photographers have been capturing the speed of things in engaging ways. For this special Month of Photography event, show us you're Lost in Motion.

CREATIVE BRIEF
Colfax Avenue is a street with a life, breath, and character all its own. Its fame, or infamy (depending on how you look at it) lies in everything from the neon signs that light up its intersections, to the thousands of people who pass through via car, bike, or bus every single day. We invite our artists and creatives to use Colfax Avenue, and everything that surrounds and encompasses it, as your muse. What inspires, intrigues, or shocks you about Denver’s most famous avenue? What makes you think, what makes you stop and take another look? Where do you find creativity on, in, and around the street – Colfax. All mediums are welcome and encouraged to apply for this call.
This exhibit will be held during, and in conjunction with Denver Month of Photography. While no mediums are excluded from applying to this call (in fact all mediums are encouraged), 40 West Arts Gallery will emphasis Month of Photography through various forms, to include a photography-only section of the gallery. We welcome all artists and creatives working in this medium to apply.
The exposure for this event will be strong, to include our ongoing outreach and social media efforts - website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, other social networking sites, eNewsletter, postcards, artists’ networks, assorted city, chamber, and neighborhood association emails and more. This show will also be included in all Month of Photography marketing and outreach efforts. Month of Photography spans the entire Denver-metro area (and beyond) so this show will gain attention from several diverse creative markets! We will seek additional exposure available to us as a State-Certified Creative District. This is terrific exposure for 40 West Arts Gallery, and the artists featured in this show.
SCREENING PROCESS
This is an inclusive exhibition, meaning that we strive to accommodate at least one work from all artists. However, submissions will be screened by a panel, including 40 West Arts curators and
invited guest jurors, to ensure quality and applicability of work. Please note that depending on the number of submissions, our curation process, and other factors, not all submitted works are guaranteed entrance into our show. We will notify you within the timeframe indicated herein regarding the acceptance of your work(s).
