Showing (work x family), is a multi-screen photography installation featuring the work of 135 renowned American photographers. It will be on exhibit at the Art Gallery at the Fulginiti Pavilion for Bioethics and Humanities.

Showing (work x family) is an expansive, six-screen photography installation featuring an original soundscape and 186 photographs by 135 photographers from around the United States. Among the artists whose work is featured are Gay Block, Lauren Greenfield, Wing Young Huie, Zun Lee, Rania Matar, Greg Miller, Carlos Ortiz, Melissa Ann Pinney, Andrea Modica, Sylvia Plachy, Angela Strassheim, and Michael Wolf. Images are sequenced by a proprietary, controlled randomization algorithm and presented on a sculptural, translucent tensile structure (approximately 6’ high x 28’ long x 4.5’ wide) designed by Viemeister Industries, New York. The installation includes an original sound environment composed by musician, performance artist, and poet Alicia Jo Rabins. The order of the imagery follows the arc of the day, from before dawn to late at night.

Showing (work x family) reveals the intimate choreography—the push and pull of work and family—in our everyday life and explores a universal domestic balancing act that has no fixed dynamic. These photographs reveal the intimate routines of mealtimes and bedtimes, commutes and carpools, calendars and keys, school-day mornings and weekend chores, childcare and grandparent shifts, single-parent households and blended families. The photographers whose images are featured in the exhibition offer sensitive perspectives on work and family, ranging from small, beautiful moments of intimacy to raw expressions of daily tensions.
